How to migrate from Shopify subscription to Stripe subscription

Legacy User Plan Updates

As part of our transition to a modern payment system, Sidr Tax has introduced new subscription plans and integrated Stripe for direct billing and improved payment management. This article is a guide for users currently billed through Shopify (legacy users) to migrate into the new Stripe-based plan.

For more details about the new Stripe integration, please review this article.

Plan Update Overview

To streamline transparency and make monthly fees easier to calculate, Sidr Tax has updated its subscription plans.

All new signups starting on March 31, 2026 will automatically be placed on the new plan structure.

Updating to the new plan structure is highly recommended because:

(a) Shopify will be imposing a new platform fee (a 15% surcharge) starting on March 31, 2026 which will be collected on legacy plans only and passed directly to Shopify, and

(b) most new features will be rolled out for plans on the new structure only (such as the upcoming Virtual Mailbox),

(c) monthly subscription fees and per-transaction overage fees will be eliminated for the new plan structure only.

For the vast majority of legacy customers, this will result in savings for Sidr Tax services.

How to Migrate to a New Plan

  1. Go to your Settings page on the left-hand side of your Sidr Tax account.
  2. You will see the new plan options and your current legacy plan displayed underneath the new plan options.
  3. To migrate, click the blue button located beneath your desired plan. For the vast majority of customers, the Standard plan is the right plan to choose in order to maintain continuity of autofilings.

Overview of New Plans

Free Plan

If you currently depend on Autofiling to run, moving to the Free plan will stop all Autofiles, so do not choose this plan level if you need the filings to continue
  • The Free Plan is designed for reporting purposes only (it does not allow for Autofile or Registration).
  • You will not be prompted to add a bank account for filing.

Standard Plan

If you migrate to the Standard Plan:

  • You will be required to add a new payment method.
  • Billing will now occur through Stripe, not Shopify Billing.
  • This change provides enhanced control over billing, credits, and refunds.
  • You can choose your payment method: either a connected US bank account or a credit card.

Premium Plan

If neither of the default plans suits your business needs, you can select the Custom Plan:

  • Choosing this option will open a chat with our support team.
  • We’ll work with you to design a plan that best fits your organization’s requirements.

Important Notes for Legacy Users

  • Regardless of whether you migrate or stay on your legacy plan, we encourage you to update your payment method on file. This ensures faster processing for any future billing adjustments, credits, or refunds.
  • If you remain on your legacy plan without updating your payment account, you will continue to be billed through Shopify. Additionally, Legacy plan users will not gain access to new features implemented by Sidr Tax unless they upgrade to our modern plan.
  • If you update your payment method in the Settings page, your future payments will be billed directly by Sidr Tax and your Sidr Tax billing through Shopify's invoice will stop. There will be no other impacts to Shopify billing otherwise.
