Sales Tax Reports

The sales tax reports are the bread and butter of Sidr Tax, and you can directly use the values in the report to fill out your state sales tax forms. Now let's break down a sales tax report, and see how it helps with your tax filing.

Sidr Tax report accurately reflects tax collected by Shopify on your behalf. However, the only exception is Returned Taxable Merchandise.

Tax report filters





On the top, you can see 4 filters, and you can use them to get the exact report you need to file. The filters include:

Shop filter: If you have multiple shops, use this filter to choose the shop.
State filter: Select the state to file. If you need to figure out which state you need to file, you can get a holistic view on the summary page.
Time range filter: Different states have different filing schedules. Using the time range filter to choose between monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually.
Start month filter: Select the month your selected time range begins. For example, if you want a Q3 report, then you will select quarterly and July.

Report details



Gross sales: This is the gross sales for your selected time range.

Deductions and Exemptions





Sidr Tax handles deductions and exceptions accurately for you. The common reasons for deductions and exemptions include:

Shipping: For certain merchandise, shipping is tax-free. This is something you can set up within Shopify.
Returned Taxable Merchandise: For returned merchandise, tax should also be returned to your customer and deducted from your tax filing. Please note that manual adjustment is also included here, and Shopify DOES NOT automatically calculate tax refunds for manual adjustments. Sidr Tax calculated prorated manual adjustment tax refund for you automatically.
Presumed Exemptions: For certain merchandise, it can be tax-free following state sales tax regulation. This is something you can set up within Shopify. If you didn't collect tax on a transaction at the time of the sale, it will be included in the presumed exemption.

State Tax



This section provides you with details about state tax collected.

County Tax



This section provides you with details about county tax collected. You can see a breakdown of all counties where you have collected tax. It's sorted alphabetically.

You can see the effective tax rate for each county, which could include base county tax, use tax, etc. You can also see the gross sales for the entire state and the share of sales that is subject to tax for the specific county. This value already excludes the deductions and exemptions mentioned above.

City Tax





This section provides you with details about city tax collected. You can see a breakdown of all cities where you have collected tax. It's sorted alphabetically.

You can see the effective tax rate for each county, which could include base city tax, use tax, etc. You can also see the gross sales for the entire state and the share of sales that is subject to tax for the specific city. This value already excludes the deductions and exemptions mentioned above.

You can also see the county that the city belongs to, which makes it easier for you to file.
